Mauritius has reached a new landmark in its history, with the arrival of the first Hollywood movie, Serenity, which is being shot in the country.

The event, hosted by the board of investment, was held at Maradiva.

It was attended by prime minister Pravind Jugnauth as chief guest; minister of public infrastructure and transport Nando Bodha; minister of tourism and leisure Anil Gayan; minister of arts and culture Prithvirajsing Roopun; the managing director of the board of investment, Ken Poonoosamy; chairman of MTPA Raj Bhujohory; chief executive of Afrasia Bank Sanjiv Basin; and other VIP guests from local companies and institutions.

The crew and cast of Serenity who were also present included Matthew McConaughey, Diane Lane, British scriptwriter and director Steven Knight, producer Greg Shapiro, Guy Heeley, and Carsten Lorenz.

During his speech, the prime minister re-instated the importance of the film industry and its contribution to the Mauritian economy while the chief executive of Maradiva, Sanjiv Ramdanee, emphasised that the country will benefit at many levels from the shooting of this film.

“Maradiva team wishes the Serenity team all the best with the shooting,” added Ramdanee.
