Earlier this week, American Airlines announced that you could now book flights to several cities in Cuba, and a few days later, that you could redeem AAdvantage miles for them as well. Now, Silver Airways, which currently operates a fleet of 34-seater Saab 340B aircraft from its Fort Lauderdale (FLL) hub, will be the first airline to fly from the US to Cuba — and to celebrate, they’re having a sale.
Here’s a breakdown of which Cuban cities you can fly into from Fort Lauderdale and when service for each will begin:
- Santa Clara (Sept. 1)
- Camaguey, (Oct. 13)
- Cienfuegos, (Oct. 21)
- Holguín, (Oct. 27)
- Santiago de Cuba (Nov. 3)
- Cayo Coco (Nov. 17)
- Varadero (Dec. 2)
- Cayo Largo del Sur (Dec. 8)
- Manzanillo de Cuba (Dec. 16)
- Havana (TBD)
The carrier’s inaugural flight from Fort Lauderdale to Santa Clara takes place several days earlier than American’s, operating on September 1 vs. September 7, making it the first airline to fly from the US to Cuba in more than 50 years.
While you can’t yet fly into Havana (on either airline), consider flying into and checking out some of Cuba’s other cities — Senior Editor Kaeli Conforti loved visiting Cienfuegos and Santiago de Cuba during Fathom’s inaugural cruise to Cuba, while TPG himself loved spending time in Santa Clara and Varadero.
