FOLLOWING a massive refurbishment, Cathay Pacific’s (CX) biggest ever business class lounge, The Pier, will debut in the next couple of weeks in the northwest concourse of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA).

The design of the new lounge was inspired by the distinct identity of a Hong Kong street, complete with “slow” and “fast” lanes.

In the “fast” lanes, passengers can expect an array of dining options including The Food Hall, a vibrant space with self-service kiosks inspired by street food carts of Asia, as well as The Noodle Bar, a common feature in CX lounges.

In the “slow” lanes are comfortable lounge chairs and bespoke Solo Chairs overlooking the airport runway. The Solo Chairs are in a space catered to those looking for a quiet space to catch up on work, and features built-in reading lamps and individual side tables.

One of the novel features of the lounge is the Tea House, a soothing space offering a vast selection of premium teas served by a tea specialist.

According to South China Morning Post, the new lounge will debut despite the airline implementing austerity measures following a wave of criticism from customers and shareholders.

After its annual general meeting last week, new cost-saving measures have been put in place including a hiring freeze.
