Fast-growing Spirit Airlines will begin flying to Charlotte in June, entering an American Airlines hub and continuing a ramp-up in North Carolina.

Spirit will begin Raleigh-Durham service in May with seven routes. The airline currently serves Greensboro and Asheville.

The discount carrier will fly daily between Charlotte and Baltimore, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and Newark, beginning June 20.

Spirit estimates that its 2019 capacity growth, measured by available seat miles, will be 15%. Spirit’s other new cities this year are Austin (eight destinations starting Feb. 14), and Indianapolis (two routes starting March 14).
