According to the local media, last year, Cambodia welcomed 6.61 million international visitors, 6.6% more than in 2018, generating 4.92 billion dollars.

The Chinese market was the largest source of tourists for Cambodia’s tourism, with 2.36 million visitors, for year-on-year growth of 16.7%, followed by Vietnam and Thailand.

Tourism is one of the most important industries for the national economy, accounting for 12.1% of the GDP in 2019, says the source.

The Ministry of Tourism already forecasted a drop in arrivals and said that the country is likely to receive 6.45 million foreign tourists in 2020, representing a 2.4% annual fall due to the Wuhan virus outbreak.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia, recently announced that the government is enforcing a tax exemption policy to all hotels and guest houses in the northern province of Siem Reap for a period of 4 months, starting from February.
