THAI LION AIR (TLA) was flagged after it was found to be selling flight tickets to Myanmar without approval to fly over the country.

According to the Thai Transport Ministry, the carrier did not have permission from Myanmar aviation authorities to fly over the country.

A promotion was put up by the airline on April 25 for flights to take off from May 20 onwards. TLA executives will be called in to explain the issue while passengers will be alerted.

Thailand’s Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith said such practices could not be condoned and he ordered agencies to address the issue.

Airlines are only authorized to sell tickets for flights to pre-approved destinations.

According to The Bangkok Post, another complaint was made on a popular Thai website about TLA overbooking a flight, leaving one passenger stranded in Don Mueang.

The airline allegedly claimed no responsibility for the incident and told the passenger to purchase a new ticket from a different airline.
