From next year Uganda will no longer offer the $150 (R2 000) discount on gorilla permits in the low season. The $600 (R8 000) rate for a permit will apply throughout the year, according to Jenman African Safaris.

April, May and November are considered low season and travellers used to receive the discount at this time. There has not been an official statement but tour operators need to be aware of the change, especially for trips that have already been booked in the low season of 2018.

However, Uganda is still the cheaper option for gorilla trekking as Rwanda, doubled its rate from $750 (R10 000) to $1500 (R20 000) earlier this year.
