Victoria Cruise Lines has launched its first sailing on China’s Yangtze River since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The American-managed luxury cruise line said the recently renovated Victoria Katarina set sail Monday on the company’s “Three Gorges Highlights” itinerary.

Victoria said it is also planning to deploy the Victoria Anna and Victoria Jenna in September on weekly sailings between Chongqing and Yichang.

Larry Greenman, manager of public relations and customer service for Victoria, said the ships will be sailing at 50% capacity and with a number of new health and safety protocols in place, including health screenings, temperature checks and enhanced cleaning procedures.

The company said it has also installed hospital-grade particle filtration units in the air conditioning and environmental systems of all ships currently in operation.

The sailings are currently limited to domestic customers, which includes Chinese nationals and expats living in China.

“We are using this opportunity to fine-tune our pandemic policies and procedures prior to the anticipated return of international visitors and look forward to welcoming our American guests back soon,” Greenman said.
