JAPAN’S All Nippon Airways (ANA) has recently started flying its latest Boeing 777 Star Wars-themed airplane based on the BB-8 robot character .

The BB-8 jet took off on its maiden international flight last week to Los Angeles from Osaka. The airplane’s exterior is painted in orange to mimic the droid while the cabin crew are decked in BB-8-themed aprons. ANA struck a deal with Disney for the copyright to the designs.

The plane is the last of ANA’s three jets to be painted in the popular science fiction theme. The first, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, was modeled after lovable droid R2-D2 from the film’s original trilogy and started flying late last year. Meanwhile, the airline’s second Star Wars plane, a Boeing 767, combines the aesthetics of both droids.

Asia is not new to kitsch airplane themes. Mid last year, Taiwan’s EVA Air launched its Hello Kitty-themed airplane, complete with a sky shop where passengers can purchase official Hello Kitty merchandise.
