THOSE OF US WHO GREW UP IN the 90’s remember Bill Nye as the lovable, goofy guy with the bow tie who talked about science. These days, he’s become one of the most stinging critics of climate change deniers. Recently, climate change denier Joe Bastardi issued a challenge to Nye, asking that he prove a link between carbon emissions and climate change.

Nye was game. He first broke down Bastardi’s argument, pointing out how misleading all of his charts disproving the reality of climate change were, and then called out Bastardi for being in the pocket of the fossil fuel industry.

Nye isn’t all talk, though: he put his money where his mouth is. He bet Bastardi $10,000 that 2016 would be one of the top ten hottest years on record. He also bet an additional $10,000 that the decade 2010 to 2020 would prove to be the hottest decade ever recorded.

Bastardi has not of yet accepted Nye’s bet. And it’s probably better that he doesn’t: Last month was the seventh month in a row to break global temperature records, and 2010, 2013, 2014, and 2015 are all already in the top ten. Don’t mess with Bill Nye the Science Guy.
