SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL – A new subway station has opened in the South Zone of São Paulo. Campo Belo of Line 5-Lilás is the last of the eleven stations that make up the line connecting Capão Redondo to Chácara Klabin. The stretch is twenty kilometers long.
The works of Line 5 began in 1998, under the government of Mário Covas (PSDB), and were scheduled to be completed in 2014. The last of stations of Line 5 delivered by the government were Hospital São Paulo, Santa Cruz, and Chácara Klabin, in September of last year.
The new station, which should receive over 20 thousand people per day, will operate on a reduced schedule this week, from 10 am to 3 pm.
From Saturday, April 13 onwards, the business hours will be normal: from 4h40 to 0h00 from Sunday-Friday, and from 4h40 to 1h on Saturdays.
In August 2018, Line 5 began to be administered by the ViaMobilidade Consortium, which won the international tender for the concession of lines 5-Lilacs and 17-Gold (under construction) by offering the State Government a fixed grant of R$ 553,8 million.
The consortium was responsible for the commercial operation of the two lines for a period of 20 years. The initial investment expected from the private partner is of R$ 88.5 million for infrastructure improvements at the Santo Amaro station. Throughout the term of the permit, the expected investments and reinvestments are of R$ 3 billion.
