The Gautrain Management Agency has identified Lanseria Airport as one of 19 proposed new stations in the rail network expansion plan.

A feasibility study identified and outlined preferred routes, with Randburg a new station on the link between Sandton and Cosmo City with a future link from Cosmo City to Lanseria.

The study also identified new stations on the link between Jabulani via Cosmo City and Samrand to Mamelodi, to be Roodepoort, Little Falls, Fourways, Sunninghill, Olievenhoutsbosch, Irene, Tshwane East and Hazeldean. On the link between Rhodesfield and Boksburg there will be a station at East Rand Mall with a possible link-up to the OR Tambo International Airport Midfield terminal development.

“Due to the magnitude and complexity of the project, it will be split into five phases,” said the GMA in a statement.

“There is currently no timeline set for the commencement and completion of construction of these stations. The line to Lanseria is not planned for the immediate future as it is not part of the first phase of development.” said, Ingrid Jensen, Executive Manager: Reputation at the Gautrain Management Agency

The current Gautrain network covers 80km and is expected to be extended by 150km in the next 20 years.
