The average expenditure of Spanish travelers on their vacations this summer amounted to EUR 1,025 euros, 8% more than in 2016, according to the latest edition of the Cetelem Observatory which analyzed the travel expenditures of the Spanish globetrotters during the summer holiday season.

32% of Spanish travelers questioned in the study, stated that they had earmarked less than EUR300 for their vacations this year, in contrast with the 21% who acknowledged an expenditure of almost EUR 3,000.

Regarding holiday spending, 29% of Spanish tourists surveyed said that they spent more than they did in 2016 (6 % more than the year before). In addition, 39% said that they allocated the same budget this year – compared to 43% the previous year. The percentage of Spanish travelers who said that they spent less this summer dropped by one point – 32% versus 33% in 2016.

The favorite holiday activity of 67% of the respondents is going out to restaurants, followed by shopping (56%) and going to the movies (41%).

The next most popular activity is traveling within Spain – staying in hotels or apartments (35%) or with friends or family (25%).

This year, the number of Spanish globetrotters who traveled abroad and who stayed in hotels or apartments increased –from 12% in 2016 to 16% in the summer of 2017.

The number of Spanish respondents who expressed their intention to travel this June exceeded the number of trips actually made. 41% of those surveyed in June said that they would like to travel across Spain, staying in hotels or apartments – a percentage higher than what was recorded by the summer Cetelem Observatory which concluded that only 35% of its participants actually went on a trip of this type.
