I was in grade 11 in 1993. It was around the time I was putting away the MC Hammer pants for good and digging into the Seattle grunge scene. It was also a couple years before LaserDiscs started to become somewhat popular in North America. (Remember those? They were supposed to take over the home video scene. Point of interest: LaserDiscs actually go back to 1978 when they were first licensed and sold.)

It was also more than a decade before many of us would even hear about HD but, as seen in the video above, this was possible to capture on VHS tape, and was known as DVHS (Digital VHS). The format didn’t last long but it boggled my mind to just learn it was being done 23 years (and more) ago. If you really want to geek out on this, watch this video by Techmoan.
