Thorntree River Lodge situated in Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park, Zambia, close to Victoria Falls, opened its doors in May, offering guests an opportunity to observe and walk with the park’s White rhinos.
The lodge was built on the banks of the Zambezi River, with an environmentally-conscious design. It consists of 10 suites in total, eight being luxury suites, accommodating two per unit, and two family suites, with four beds in each family unit.
On the edge of the riverside is a communal deck, with a sunken boma area, as well as an infinity pool. There are wooden decking floats on the edge of the river, which move with the water level.
The lodge also offers cruises down the Zambezi on a private boat, white rhino tracking on foot, game drives in the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park,cultural village visits, fishing and visits to the Livingstone Museum.
There are currently seven white rhino in Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park, each under 24 our armed guard. The lodge is offering guests the opportunity to observe the rhino on foot, allowing them to get up close and personal. Guests will be accompanied by professional guides who will assess the situation and take the guests to a safe distance to view the rhinos. “We hope that by offering our guests this activity we can help to raise awareness for the plight of the rhinos”, says Jemma MacMillan, Public Relations and Marketing Manager at African Bush Camps.
