RwandAir has announced it will commence three weekly flights to London Gatwick Airport from Kigali on May 26th, 2017.
London, one of the world’s leading financial centres, becomes RwandAir’s first European and second long haul route.
The destination will be served by the newly acquired state of the art Airbus A330 fleet in a triple class configuration with in-flight connectivity.
“We are delighted to enable new and seamless connections between London and the whole of our network offering our esteemed customers a differentiated product in terms of comfort, good customer services and affordability,” said John Mirenge, chief executive, RwandAir.
RwandAir has already announced that flights to Mumbai, India and Harare, Zimbabwe will commence in the first week of April.
London will be RwandAir’s twenty second destination.
From Kigali, its hub at the heart of Africa, RwandAir is known for excellent on time performance and is one of the safest airlines on the continent.
It operates one of the youngest fleet in Africa.
With eleven aircraft, the young airline currently reaches out to nineteen cities in western, eastern and southern Africa as well as the Middle East.
In 2016 RwandAir started operations to Cotonou and Abidjan, received its first two brand new wide-body Airbus A330s and its third Boeing 737-800NG.
The Gatwick flight follows the earlier announcement of flights from Kigali to Harare on April 1st and to Mumbai, India, on the April 3rd.
Also on the horizon for RwandAir are flights to Conakry and Lilongwe, among other destinations eyed by the Rwandan national airline, to improve intra-African connections while also eying to launch flights to New York by the end of the year.
All this is supporting the country’s ambition to become a top five meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions destination by next year and remain a leading tourism destination in Eastern Africa.
Early signs of success include an announcement the World Travel Awards will visit Rwanda in October for the Africa Gala Ceremony 2017.
