For the kids who need to burn off some energy, try one of these daredevil activities with minimal age restrictions, writes Grace Ellis.

1 Discovery Jet — Rakaia

Gorge, Canterbury For the adventurers who haven’t quite reached the age or weight restrictions of other thrill-seeking activities, why not weave through one of New Zealand’s most remarkable braided rivers in a high-speed jet boat? The Discovery Jet in Canterbury’s Rakaia Gorge not only provides magnificent views of the Southern Alps and Mt Hutt but is also safe for all ages. Better yet, whether your child is looking for a leisurely ride or is an eager beaver urging to go full throttle, this experience is free for children under 5 who are accompanied by an adult.

2 Skydive Auckland — Tandem Skydiving

For the mini daredevils who laugh in the face of danger, jumping out of the sky could be their new favourite activity. Believe it or not, there is no minimum age restriction for tandem skydiving in New Zealand. Within a 45-minute drive from Auckland, your little one could be leaping out of a plane from their choice of 9000ft, 13,000ft or for the real adrenaline junkies, 16,5000ft. Please note: although there are no age restrictions, kids must meet a minimum weight restriction and be able to fit the harness provided. They also needaparent or guardian with them to sign the consent form on their behalf.

3 Ziptrek Ecotours — Queenstown

Has your child always wanted to soar through the sky like Superman? Try a zipline tour in the heart of Queenstown.
