IGNACIO VILLEGAS ARELLANO is originally from Mexico and worked in the United States legally as a farmworker for many years. But after hearing Trump’s rhetoric against immigrants, he finally decided to apply for citizenship at the age of 101. His 94-year-old wife, Maria Guadalupe Correa de Villegas followed his lead and also gained U.S. citizenship a week after he did. Watch the video above (in Spanish) to hear their story.

According to the New York Times, applications for naturalization went up by 11 percent in 2015, leading many to speculate that Trump politics has motivated immigrants to gain citizenship so they can obtain the right to vote.
