Mare Avertencia Lirika is a Zapotec artist from the state of Oaxaca, Mexico, a region that is known for its marginalization of indigenous communities. In her music video “Bienvenidx” from her new album “Siempre Viva” (Always Alive), she uses hip-hop to expose Mexico’s social inequality and oppression. The video attacks Mexico’s political alignment with neoliberal economic systems that have ultimately not served its own people.
